Nissan ‘Nismo v Wingsuits’

The idea

One of our long-term agency clients is Proud Robinson, who came to us with a brief to create a piece of content unlike anything Nissan had done before, with the aim of showcasing the performance of the Nissan Nismo 370Z. With this blank canvas, Des Paul worked with good friend and legendary Top Gear cameraman Iain May on the concept of a Bond-style stunt, that would make the car the star and be full of epic moments. Iain had shot some wingsuit flyers earlier in the year and with this as our starting point, we began planning the duel.

Bringing it to life

This film is an epic, adrenaline-fuelled duel between a Nissan 370Z Nismo and two incredible wingsuit flyers, racing to a secret finish point. Filming took place over three days in the Swiss Alps, with the wingsuit flyers making multiple jumps. In order to make the most of our time, we had two ‘star cars’ with a separate team filming the tracking shots while the aerial unit focused on the wingsuit pilots. The final sequence was filmed as you see it, and the landing of the wingsuit pilot as the car donuts around him was all real! As a piece of automotive content, it’s a good example of the scale of production that we can deliver. The final film was edited into versions for YouTube, for the cinema and for television across various international markets. Our automotive unit who produced this are made up of the core team behind the classic Top Gear and Grand Tour films, and are considered ‘the best of the best’ in terms of this type of production. The film also won an award for its sound design and was the biggest single piece of digital content Nissan had made.
