Celebrating 10 Years of Nissan Wingsuits

Celebrating the 10-year anniversary of one of our most exhilarating projects – Nissan Wingsuits.

They say time flies and it literally does as this year marks 10 years since we produced one of our favourite films. Today, as we relook at this milestone year, we’re still filled with excitement to share the journey we had creating such an impactful piece of content. The mission was to create an adrenaline-fuelled piece of content to showcase the Nissan 370Z Nismo. This is what happened.

The Planning

The journey of Nissan Wingsuits began with a blank canvas and a bold vision. Our long-term agency client, Proud Robinson, presented us with a unique challenge – to create content that would showcase the power and performance of the Nissan Nismo 370Z like never before. With our creative minds set in motion, we collaborated with legendary Top Gear cameraman and old friend, Iain May, to conceive a Bond-style stunt that would make the car the true star of the film.

The concept of fusing the heart-stopping spectacle of wingsuit flyers with the precision of the Nissan 370Z Nismo was born, and we delved into meticulous storyboarding sessions. See some of our initial storyboards below:

The Filming

Filming in the Swiss Alps was no small feat. Once we had recced the locations and chosen our winguit athletes, we then started planning the shoot. Safety was the number one priority, both in the air and on the ground. We had filming and medical helicopters, multiple cameras and a large crew to manage, which required detailed preparation. The wingsuit guys made multiple jumps, so we could get the best shots and to make the most of our time, we had two ‘star cars’ with a separate team filming the tracking shots while the aerial unit focused on the wingsuit pilots. The final sequence was filmed as you see it, and the landing of the wingsuit pilot as the car donuts around him was all real!

The End Result

Months of meticulous planning and days of exhilarating filming culminated in a masterpiece which we are still proud of a decade on. We love that the film truly brings the Swiss Alps to life and it invites viewers to feel energised by heart-stopping duel as the Nissan 370Z Nismo raced against gravity-defying wingsuit flyers. The film went on to be Nissan’s biggest ever single piece of digital content and impacted the way they made their global ads for years to come.
